Mayra Yanez is a BFA candidate in fashion design at the University of North Texas (UNT). She strives to create elegant, yet edgy clothes that help women feel beautiful and empowered. Her focus is in the luxury sportswear market where she hopes to develop her personal luxury label.
As a first-generation student, Yanez has drawn much of her inspiration from various social and environmental justice movements that have helped shape her world perspective. Currently, her work centers around the Me-Too Movement and how feminist ideals have impacted fashion throughout history.
Upon graduating from UNT, Yanez plans to further pursue a master’s degree in creative direction and fashion brand management. Her goal is to advocate for equal rights while helping others effectively express themselves and their beliefs through clothing.
